Keyionage Black ATAL is an interesting text written by Thomas Keneally. It is set in Mauleon and picks up in London after the events in A Time of War. We follow the story of Davidcy, a young man from Mauleon who turns Private First Class. Along the way he experiences many things and develops a passion for war, that he carries with him throughout his service. I enjoyed the character and the plot very much, but it did not live up to expectations.
The story is set in 1940 and World War II is raging around the globe. Davidcy is part of the British Army and his family has been forced to leave their home for the United Kingdom. They settle in a small farmhouse on the French Riviera and are initially joined by Frank and his German wife, Magda. Frank lives with his sister, Estelle, and their dog, Max. Magda becomes pregnant with Davidcy’s son, Peter, while Frank and Estelle take up a temporary residence in the countryside. schlüsseldienst Münster
While living in the farmhouse, Peter and Estelle try to hide out from their mother, but they are caught and sent to prison. They manage to escape, and Davidcy becomes a soldier. He is given a tank and he drives it to the beach where his friend Rolf tries to shoot it down with a machine gun. However, the tank is badly damaged and Davidcy manages to shoot it down with his tank gun. He then teams up with Max, a German paratrooper, and becomes a part of the 4th Armoured Division.
The game mainly takes you through a series of missions and gameplay segments where you have to complete several objectives and earn money and XP. As you advance in the game, you will meet different characters and get into more tricky situations where you have to use your knowledge and skills to either escape or win the battle. Although the story and the setting are quite impressive, I felt that some story elements could have been added to make the game more interesting. Some of the spy strategies used could also be improved.
The multiplayer portion of the game doesn’t have as many options as the single player campaign, which is strange considering the fact that the single player component has a very engaging core concept that attracts players. However, the game can be played with up to four people who play either locally or on an online server. The game is rather short and the developers have included many features that will make the game more interesting, such as voice over and text tutorials. I liked the fact that the text was written in German, English, French, and Russian so that it didn’t look like I was trying to speak German!
Black ATAL looks like a real time strategy game. There are a lot of movement in the game and a good supply of weapons and vehicles. Although the single player missions are challenging, they do not offer a lot of depth. The co-op missions are exciting though, and I got to learn a lot of new things about the game from reading the manual and the in-game guide. Overall, I’d recommend the game for anyone who likes a great text based strategy game with some strategic elements.
